Stuck inside because it’s raining and pouring? Just remember that April showers bring May flowers! Always look on the bright side. That’s easier said than done when your toddler is going stir crazy and has grown tired of the four walls around her. Evie is an outdoors kiddo for sure. Unfortunately, the forecast for the week is full of rain Monday-Friday. Take a deep breath, we will make it through this! A little rain never hurt anyone, so I am more than happy to let her play in the rain for a while, but this 30 minutes to an hour outside is nothing compared to her usual half days in the sun.
Yesterday we had so much rain all morning, and she hadn’t gotten a moment to play outside. So I got on the momma thinking cap and come up with something new and fun to do inside!
Making your own Rainbow on Rainy Days
As I was grocery shopping last week, I came across a childhood favorite, Jell-O. I noticed a new package for this “Simply Good” line and the pineapple orange flavor piqued my curiosity too. I almost walked away, but the “no artificial flavors” and “no artificial colors” labels got me to take a second look. If I loved Jell-O as much as I did during my childhood, Evie may love it as well. The best part, it’s so much healthier than the snack I used to enjoy!
Another bonus, Evie loves “cooking.” She is constantly asking if she can whisk the eggs while I prepare breakfast and she loves to mix in all the ingredients when we make homemade granola. I hope her love for cooking continues and that it’s not too long before my “MasterChef Junior” is making family dinner a few days a week! Let me now get too ahead of myself. We made Jell-O which required two easy steps, but she loved helping me measure the water, pouring the gelatin mixture into the water, and mixing it all together.
After waiting 4 hours, she was pretty pumped to see the final jiggly product. Her excitement intensified when she realized: 1- we get to use cookie cutters to cut out shapes, and 2-playing with your food is a requirement for enjoying Jell-O! We will have to get creative in the future and try some of these kid friendly Jell-O treats:
Needless to say, we had an awesome day inside!
What’s your favorite way to get creative in the kitchen with the kids?
Lots of Love,
