Do Second Time Moms Shower?
Ok, that’s a trick question, we all know how hard it is to get 10 minutes to yourself to shower with just one child! But I’m talking about baby showers today. When I was pregnant with my daughter Evie, I had wanted a shower, but for the sake of keeping things casual, I opted for a couples “Baby Q.” Everyone pitched in to make the day so special! I had fabulous hostesses to perfect every detail, family worked on all the barbecue prep and cooking, and friends came from out of town. It was certainly an outpouring of love and I 100% felt showered with support and well wishes for my baby and I. I was and am forever grateful for that beautiful celebration.
This time around, I didn’t want to inconvenience anyone with the task of planning and hosting a baby shower, nor did I want others to feel obligated to purchase gifts for another child. Hey, I realize I got knocked up pretty quickly after the first baby! So I went back and forth on how to celebrate your second child? I asked for other moms opinion and many said if this were another girl, they’d likely do nothing because they already had everything they needed. But this is my first little boy; I can’t dress him in Evie’s hand me downs, even if I think he will be a beautiful little guy lol.
Sprinkles are for Winners, and in my case, Second Babies!
Not being one of proper etiquette or formality, I learned that a baby sprinkle is a smaller shower for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. babies. I may be in the minority, but I think it should be called a “drizzle” if we are sticking with the forecast terminology. But any who, on April 15th, I had a baby sprinkle My hosts were my sister-in-law and my partner-in-crime (no real legal crimes committed). These two also stood by my side as I married my husband aka baby daddy!
They planned a super cute StarWars theme, because everyone seems to be team “Lukas Sky Walker.” Long story HERE in-case you missed it. Check out the cute details for the padawan! Also, this off the shoulder ruffle dress from ASOS made me feel like a million bucks despite major swelling and a puffy face from allergies. Gotta love the magic of a little black dress!
Baby showers aren’t about the gifts you receive, although they are very helpful and thoughtful. I remembered the reason why I loved the first shower so much: not because I was surrounded by friends who loved me, but because I had friends and family showing me just how much they were ready to love my little ones! There’s such a powerful feeling in knowing that as much as you will strive to be an amazing mother, you have so many behind you to make you stronger during the trying times and raise you and your family up in any situation.I definitely felt all the love for this little man at my baby sprinkle, and because of the incredible women around me, I know I can be incredible for him.
