The Sweet Tooth- or Teeth
It all started in middle school. [Insert exact date and mood of the day for dramatic effect] Ok, maybe it wasn’t that serious, but I remember the excitement that rushed over me when my family dentist explained to my mom that I would benefit from braces! My happiness level: 10/10. I had prayed to be one of the many lucky children to have their teeth bedazzled with snazzy silver brackets and colorful, slightly unappetizing rubber bands! You may think I’m kidding, but NO, this is legit. I was the most excited patient to ever sit in an orthodontists chair! That was when my love for teeth began.
I embraced every new experience of my life as a “brace face” with great enthusiasm. That first week of tenderness that required me to eat copious amounts of Jell-O, ice cream, ect. was the beginning of my “cool kid” phase in life. Movies and media lead us to believe that braces bring about the opposite for most adolescents, but for me, my stock went way up! I really think it was the braces that led me to feel some kind of way about myself, like I was da bomb, which is today’s equivalent of feeling like Beyonce’.
I’d walk into the orthodontist office and discuss my need for Koby Hooks on my upper bicuspids and request a class II chain elastics. Because I was hot stuff! It was an all too short time in my life. Only two years with my beloved braces and man do I wish I could still be like that confident 13 year old who wore head gear and thought she was unstoppable. She was also late for school everyday. Who knew making toothpaste commercials in your bathroom mirror was a sure way to loose track of time?
The Sensitive Teeth
At 21, I entered a pageant and won; you’d think I’d be at my most confident. Ha! Little did I know I was entering my most insecure, hot mess stage of life. I’m still grappling with that blog post. It didn’t help that two hours after winning the title of Miss Colorado USA, I was being told that my teeth needed to be replaced with veneers if I wanted to do well at Miss USA. Nothing against the art of cosmetic dentistry, but these were the teeth that I proudly flashed to many a smile! I loved my smile before that night, and then I went the next year over analyzing its many imperfections. Long story not as long….to this day, I am so glad that I decided against that advice. I think my teeth appreciate me for it as well.
The Wisdom Teeth
I still take great pride in my chompers. I love cleanings, I love flossing, I protect them with a mouth guard at night, I even put a crown on one of them! I smile A LOT. Thanks to SmileBriliant, I recently whitened my teeth to get that pearly sparkle back! A simple, custom-tray, professional at home whitening system that is perfect for those busy chasing children! Too bad they don’t make whitening trays for dark under eye circles, but they do have a gel to ease sensitivity for those of us with sensitive teeth. Moms, we all need coffee to function… coffee stains teeth…SmileBrilliant erases coffee stains!
